An alumni network turned 501(c)(3) — applying engineering rigor to philanthropic work in India.
In 2020, as the world stilled and screens replaced classrooms, a quiet thing happened. Engineering classmates from Thadomal Shahani Engineering College — graduates of the Class of ’89 — reconnected after decades apart.
What started as casual catch-ups soon turned to harder conversations. The pandemic had exposed the inequalities we’d been raised alongside, in cities we’d left and communities we still loved. We wanted to act — not symbolically, but structurally.
Drawing on the problem-solving instincts our engineering training gave us, we built TAP Charity Inc. around a single, durable framework: H.E.L.P. — Health, Education, Livelihoods, and Psychosocial Development. Four pillars, designed to address the root causes of poverty, not just its symptoms.
As a 501(c)(3), we bring transparency, governance, and strategic rigor to every project. We don’t run programs on the ground — we partner with specialized organizations who do, and we hold them (and ourselves) accountable to measurable outcomes.
Generosity consists not the sum given, but the manner in which it is bestowed.— Mahatma Gandhi
