Free Libraries Movement

The Kutumb Foundation started the mobile Chalti Phirti Bansa Library project, with the generous support of TAP Charity Inc , and with the expertise of our local knowledge partner, Aruna Mithlesh Foundation (Bansa Community Library & Resource Centre). The mobile library takes Kutumb’s mission of promoting the arts and the joy of learning to villages throughout Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, and helps books and free library programming reach communities that otherwise would not have access. We believe in the critical importance of free library programming to promote independent, creative, and empathetic critical thinking, and look forward to taking this project forward.

    I went to Mumbai expecting to write a cheque in my head and walk away. Instead I spent a day inside Tata Memorial Hospital with the volunteers of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundation — and came home unable to stop thinking about a single number: 2000.
